Top 10 handbags export markets of Vietnam in the first 5 months of 2020

According to preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs, bags, suitcases and umbrellas exported to foreign markets in the first 5 months of 2020 reached over USD 1.28 billion, down 14.5% compared to with the first 5 months of 2019.

Particularly in May 2020, the turnover increased by 15.3% compared to April 2020 but decreased by 31.9% compared to May 2019, reaching USD 229.59 million.

Vietnam exports handbags, suitcases and umbrellas to more than 30 markets worldwide. In particular, the most is exported to the US with over USD 489 million in 5 months, accounting for more than 38% of total export turnover of this group of the country, down 23% over the same period last year.

Japan ranked second in turnover, reaching USD 160.22 million, accounting for 12.5%, down 3.7%; Next is the Netherlands market accounting for 7.6% of the total turnover, reaching USD 96.86 million, down 14.7% over the same period.

In general, exports of bags, suitcases and umbrellas in the first 5 months of 2020 to most markets decreased in turnover over the same period in 2019. A sharp decline in markets such as the Czech Republic decreased by 71% to USD 0.6 million; Norway decreased by 50% to USD 1.5 million; Argentina decreased by 39% to USD 0.8 million;

However, some markets still increased strongly as Nigeria increased by 468% to USD 5.4 million; Mexico increased by 79% to reach USD 10.7 million; Brazil increased nearly 39% to USD 6 million.

Nigeria is a booming export market of Vietnam in the first 5 months of 2020.
