Tianjin Port tests Covid-19 for all workers when the city  partially locked down

Tianjin Port Group is taking samples to test all employees to comply with disease control measures. Along with that is the widespread testing of all 14 million people in Tianjin starting on January 9.

Tianjin is the eighth largest container port in the world, handling 18.53 million TEUs in 2020.

Thirteen points have been set up in the port area to collect test samples from the workers. The local media described the situation as a "hot war" state.

However, the Tianjin Port Group confirmed that port operations are continuing as normal and there is no indication of any road transport delays.

Linerlytica analyst Tan Hua Joo told Container News, "No impact on vessel operations so far but inland activities are impacted."

The latest outbreak is linked to the highly contagious variant of Omicron, and bus and train services connecting Tianjin with other cities have been suspended. People in Tianjin have been advised not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.

At least two local cases of the Omicron variant were detected over the weekend and residents in four counties were sampled on January 9 while other counties will be tested on January 9. The next day, the Tianjin government said.

With less than a month to go before the Winter Olympics in Beijing, the Chinese government is adhering to the "zero-Covid-19" policy, which has also allowed the cities of Xi'an and Yuzhou had to close after infections appeared.
