The volume of container shipments exported to the US from 10 major countries and regions in Asia fell 16.6% year-on-year to 926,673 TEUs in March, due to a significant drop in cargo from China caused by the outbreak of Corona virus (Covid-19), according to US research firm - Descartes Datamyne.

During the first three months (January to March) a total of 3,489,831 TEUs were shipped on this route, down 8.3%.

According to container data from Asia, which from China fell 36% to 360,083 TEU, close to 350,000 TEUs exported in February 2009 - the month affected by the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy. . Container throughput from South Korea dropped slightly by 0.4% to 163,398 TEU.

In contrast, container volume from Taiwan improved by 7.7% to 86,614 TEUs, while exports from Vietnam, increased rapidly by 46.1% to 84,675 TEUs, an annual increase with 16 consecutive months, continued. followed by Singapore's 58,192 TEU, up 0.9% year on year.

India exported 43,737 TEUs, an increase of 6.1%, achieving annual growth for the 23rd consecutive month. Container throughput from Japan remained almost unchanged, up slightly 0.4% to 41,896 TEU.
