MSC Restructures Transatlantic Network, Suspends NEUSEC2 Service

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is further refining its transatlantic service network to enhance operational performance and optimize fleet utilization. According to an analysis by Alphaliner, one of the most significant changes is the suspension of the Transatlantic NEUSEC2 service and the integration of several of its port calls into the EcuadorNWC-USA service.

Port Call Adjustments to Optimize the Network

Under the revised network structure, Le Havre, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Savannah will be added to the westbound leg of the EcuadorNWC-USA service.

At the same time, the service will discontinue calls at St. Petersburg, while Rotterdam, Charleston, and Jacksonville will also be removed from the rotation.

The updated port rotation will be as follows:

Antwerp – Bremerhaven – Antwerp – Le Havre – New York – Philadelphia – Baltimore – Norfolk – Savannah – Freeport (Bahamas) – Balboa – Paita – Guayaquil – Puerto Bolívar – Guayaquil – Colón (Cristóbal) – Moín – Antwerp.

Moving Toward a More Streamlined Service Network

According to Alphaliner, integrating ports previously served by the NEUSEC2 service into the EcuadorNWC-USA route will enable MSC to streamline its transatlantic network while improving operational efficiency and making more effective use of its fleet.

The move also reflects a broader industry trend, with major container carriers continuing to review and restructure their service networks in response to evolving market demand and the need to improve operational efficiency amid ongoing volatility in the global container shipping market.
