DP World Enters Exclusive Talks to Develop First Container Terminal on the U.S. Gulf Coast

Global port operator DP World has confirmed that it has entered exclusive negotiations to develop and operate a new container terminal at the Port of Corpus Christi in Texas.

The agreement includes a proposed long-term lease and marks a historic milestone for DP World as it moves toward establishing its first container terminal on the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Expanding Global Supply Chain Capacity

Under the proposal, DP World would be responsible for the full scope of the project, from design and construction to terminal operations. The core objective is to expand container-handling capacity and strengthen supply chain connectivity across the wider region. Beyond economic benefits, the project is also expected to generate long-term employment opportunities through collaboration with local workforce partners and staffing providers.

DP World is currently a major global logistics player, handling around 10% of global container traffic through a network of more than 60 ports and terminals worldwide.

Commenting on the project’s significance amid rising demand for port infrastructure along the Gulf Coast, Brian Enright, CEO of DP World Americas, said: “The Port of Corpus Christi presents a significant opportunity to expand container capacity, strengthen supply chain connectivity and create new pathways for American businesses to access global markets.”

Port of Corpus Christi’s Diversification Strategy

On the partner side, the Port of Corpus Christi is currently one of the largest ports in the United States in terms of total tonnage. It serves as a critical export gateway for energy products, agricultural commodities, and industrial goods.

Kent Britton, Chief Executive Officer of the Port of Corpus Christi, said the collaboration aligns closely with the port’s long-term diversification strategy. Reflecting on the outlook, he stated: “Entering into exclusive negotiations with DP World is another important step in our long-term strategy to expand the Port’s capabilities, deliver greater value to our customers and ignite investment in the Coastal Bend.”

In the next phase, discussions will focus on key elements including terminal design, capacity planning, and investment structure before both parties move toward a final formal agreement.
