CMA CGM Implements Peak Season Surcharges on Mauritius and West Africa Routes

Ocean carrier CMA CGM has announced its decision to adjust its Peak Season Surcharges (PSS), covering shipments originating from the Far East and China destined for Mauritius and West Africa.

Far East to Mauritius Surcharge Details

For cargo flows transported from the Far East to Port Louis (Mauritius), the PSS is set at $250/TEU. This surcharge will be applied across the board for both dry and refrigerated (reefer) containers, officially taking effect starting April 15, 2026.

China to West Africa Surcharge Details

Concurrently, CMA CGM has also rolled out a PSS for shipments originating from China to multiple destinations in West Africa. This regulation officially took effect on March 27, 2026, and will remain in place until further notice. The specific tariff is divided into two tiers as follows:

● $225/TEU: Applicable to cargo flows destined for Liberia, Mauritania, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, and Sao Tome & Principe. This surcharge covers all types of cargo moving under short-term contracts.

● $400/TEU: This higher surcharge tier will be applied to shipments destined for the ports of Dakar (Senegal) and Freetown (Sierra Leone), and similarly applies to all types of cargo under short-term contracts.

Explaining this rate adjustment, a CMA CGM representative stated that updating these surcharges is part of the carrier's ongoing effort to maintain reliable and efficient services across its entire network, thereby adapting promptly to current market conditions.
