According to analysts Sea-Intelligence, the reliability of the container sailing schedule in August is at an all-time low.

Sea-Intelligence's August global shipping performance report showed schedule reliability fell to 33.6%, the lowest level in 10 years that the analyst has tracked the schedule reliability of container shipping lines.

Most sailing schedule reliability for the year hovers around 35-40%, however, August coincides with growing port congestion in the US, Asia and elsewhere, which has become increasingly worse in September. The report said the number of late arrivals continued to increase in August, increasing 0.58 days to an average of 7.57 days.

None of the shipping lines achieved 50% of schedule reliability in August, and there were six carriers with less than 20%.

The highest number is Maersk Line with 45.6% schedule reliability and the lowest is Evergreen shipping line with only 11.5% in August.

The report covers more than 60 shipping lines with over 34 different shipping routes.

As reliability continues to decline, Maersk has announced that to improve the reliability of its sailing schedules, it has decided to adjust the number of voyages on its Asia-North Europe routes to match the corresponding actual weeks of departure. “Continued strong demand, coupled with network disruptions has hammered our schedule reliability,” the carrier said in a statement to customers on the Asia-Pacific service.

Maersk will tweak some services by omitting some ports in an effort to improve service reliability.
